Rattlesnake? or Night Snake?

These two snakes are perhaps the most difficult to tell apart.  However, the Night Snake is one of the most rare snakes in Canada, and more restricted in range than rattlesnakes, so fewer people actually encounter this species

Northern Pacific Rattlesnake		Night Snake
	In comparison to rattlesnakes, night snakes have... a less distinct neck no heat pits
	no rattle - the tail is long and skinny
	has many small splotches on its body has smoother scales than a rattlesnake, making it appear shiny.  rattlesnakes appear dull or dusty because of their ridged scales
